An immune-aging atlas: 12.4 million cells, not people
The study highlighted by Eric Topol combined about 12.4 million immune cells from 2,609 adults in eight cohorts. WashU’s October 9 release describes age-independent differences in the balance of two effector-memory CD 8 cell types.
A protein-based proxy was then examined against later health outcomes in about 50,000 UK Biobank participants, not its entire 500,000-person population.
Association does not show that changing the balance extends life, or establish a routine diagnostic test. This account uses the university release; the full paper’s statistical methods remain unreviewed.
